Leading organisation LinuxCertified Inc. has set up a bootcamp for Linux training whereby all attendees will receive a free laptop, possibly as an incentive to get more people working with the operating system.
The bootcamp, which takes place near San Francisco, is intended for IT professionals and will cover system administration in preparation for the Linux professional Institute Level 1 certification exams and the Red Hat Certified Engineer exam.
Students are given their free laptop when they arrive and will use it to carry out a number of activities on a Linux server before the bootcamp begins. The free laptop will then be used during all classes, activities and assignments.
LinuxCertified has put a strong emphasis on the importance of hands-on learning and even those with no previous UNIX experience can attend a Linux fundamentals class before joining the system administration classes.
At the end of the bootcamp, attendees are free to go home with their cheap laptop, a scheme designed to encourage them to continue to practise the skills they have learned and build up their expertise.
