In a new study of British people abroad it has been discovered that 94 per cent of holiday-makers from the UK feel the need to stay connected to the internet while away.
It is thought that the increase in smartphone usage and the ease with which people can get hold of free laptops with mobile broadband deals have all played a huge role in making the internet such a big part of people’s lives.
The results from the study show that 17 per cent of people would require the use of a laptop with mobile broadband to access the internet while they were abroad. Only 6 per cent of people said that they would not feel the need to stay online on their holiday.
Social media sites are also thought to have had a significant effect on the new figures. “The fact that just six per cent of people say they wouldn’t get online shows that Brits can’t bear to be away from sites like Facebook, Twitter, news sites and email,” said Rob Webber, Broadband Expert’s commercial director.
”[They] have become part of the daily routine for so many of us.”
