A new study has shown that the overwhelming popularity of the Apple iPad is crippling the sales of cheap laptops. The study was carried out by consumer electronics reviewer Retrevo and surveyed more than 1000 people in the U.S.
When asked whether they would buy an iPad or cheap laptops, 78 per cent of the consumers interviewed say that they would buy an iPad while just 22% would opt for cheap laptops.
Similarly, 70 per cent of interviewees said that they would wait before purchasing a laptop if they knew that the iPad was to be released soon. Out of that original 70 per cent, 42.86 per cent actually did go out and buy an iPad over cheap laptops.
Apple has now sold over one million iPads and it remains to be seen whether cheap laptops can improve enough to live up to the iPad’s high standards without losing their low price tags.
