3G mobile broadband is the future, claims Infonetics Research's principal analyst Stephane Teral and it could be that free laptops with mobile broadband are the reason. He believes that the already popular 3G looks set to take over other technologies but that the telecommunications standard is more than equipped to deal with the ever increasing demand.
With dongle users being cited as one of the biggest demographics influencing the demand, speculation has been rife that increased 3G providers offering a free laptop as incentives to new customers has led to 3G's rise in popularity and its eventual domination of the mobile broadband market. Mr Teral also claims that dongle users already have access to plenty of broadband capacity and that "with long-term evolution technology looming, this will go up again" demonstrating that there is nothing stopping the exponential growth of 3G networks.
With Mr Teral calling for the migration of as "many existing 2G and 2.5G subscribers to 3G", the sudden increase in subscribers could lead to more networks becoming 3G mobile broadband providers. This could then multiply the number of offers of free laptops with mobile broadband due to increased competition between the providers.
