Acer's free laptop warranty is to be extended by the company in a plan which will see users given greater cover during overseas trips.

The free laptop warranty with all Acer laptops currently covers owners against malfunction for three months of travel.

However, under the new plans, users would be able to make the most of their free laptop warranties for a full 12 months of overseas travel, meaning they can take malfunctioning machines to an approved service centre and have them fixed free of charge if the fault is found to be the result of a manufacturing error.

The free laptop warranty changes come in with immediate effect, and give cover in addition to that already provided by the UK warranty. So that means users will have 12 months free laptop warranty in the UK and 12 months for overseas travel.

The free laptop warranty changes have been welcomed by consumer groups.
