Free laptop schemes are important for the future, but must not replace other vital projects, according to one senior politician.
Nick Bourne, the Conservative Party's leader in the Welsh Assembly, said that free laptop schemes introduced by Labour and Plaid Cymru to give free laptop packages to needy pupils were a good thing, but should not take precedent over 'replacing crumbling classrooms'.
Free laptop initiatives have been around since Gordon Brown announced a plan covering England and Wales in 2008. Under the schemes, students from disadvantaged homes are entitled to receive free laptop bundles to help with their school work.
The free laptop schemes have been used as a major political selling point by Labour, which has led the Conservatives to assert that the party must still focus on key strategies in healthcare and education, as well as awarding free laptop deals.
