A free laptop scheme introduced by the government to give free laptop packages to disadvantaged families has met with an overwhelming response, it has been revealed.
The Home Access project, which was designed to provide free laptop with broadband packages to low income households, was first announced by Gordon Brown two years ago.
Since its launch, more than 130,000 families have applied for a free laptop bundle, with approval so far being granted to 5,309 applications to receive a free laptop with broadband.
Any UK household with children aged between seven and 14 who are entitled to free school meals can apply for the free laptop scheme. Successful applicants are given a credit card which can be used to buy the free laptop packages from government-approved suppliers. The cards are good for one unique transaction worth £528.
It is expected the success of the free laptop scheme will continue to grow.
