Five laptop spam culprits to be jailed

Spammers to be sent down

Five ‘prolific’ spammers face jail and heavy fines after pleading guilty to the charges posed. Alan Ralsky, 64, and his son-in-law, Scott Bradley, 38, have been charged with the maximum sentences - six years in prison and $1m fines for breaking the CAN-SPAM act. They also face additional charges of wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Spam mutates to other laptop applications

Slashing the amount of spam we receive on a laptop is far from simple. And while at one time the main bugbear of spam was a clogged up mail box, it has now spread into other realms of the web, including email, social networking sites and microblogging tools such as Twitter which many users access from a laptop.

The open nature of these networks, and rather vague legislation has meant that spam continues to be rife. The other major spammers - John Bown, William Neil, and James Fite - also pleaded guilty, in Michigan. They were pinpointed in an investigation which involved the US FBI, internal revenue service and postal inspection service.

While placing the five spam culprits behind bars may not eradicate the spam your laptop, this level of law enforcement will hopefully send a shock wave around the spamming world. This can only be good thing for laptop users.
