Dell laptops tablet announced

The Dell laptops keynote speech at the recent Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas saw the announcement of a new tablet device, set to be smaller than a standard netbook.

The new machine, which will sit alongside the Dell laptops range, is currently in development, with the company stating that they are working on different screen sizes and forms for the device.

The creation of a tablet PC is seen by many as an attempt by Dell laptops to keep up with the current trend for so-called slate devices currently being debuted by the likes of Apple, Microsoft and HP.

Dell laptops said that the machine – dubbed the Dell Mini 5 – would be powered by Google's Android operating system and come equipped with a SIM card slot for use outside Wi-Fi Hotspots.

Other technical details are sparse but it is thought the device will also integrate two cameras and be available in a range of colours.
