Dell laptops replaced by Christmas cards

The Christmas laptops sales rush led to hundreds of Dell laptops customers failing to receive their purchases in time for December 25 2009, it has been reported.

Instead, cheap laptop owners may be interested to hear that the affected buyers were given holiday cards by the company.

Dell laptops blamed the delay on "increased demand [and] industry-wide constraints on some components", adding that they had been particularly affected by shortages in high capacity hard drives and other memory.

Nevertheless, the move to replace customers' undelivered Dell laptop orders with holiday greetings cards has angered those left without hardware by the Christmas supply problems.

Writing on the Direct2Dell site, Dell customer relations blogger Lionel Menchaca said: "Especially at this time of year, we are sorry for the frustration."

Meanwhile, European Dell laptops boss James Gibb responded to criticism on Twitter by posting: "Genuinely sorry for the delays here... we are trying to address these issues."
