The organisation One Laptop per Child has given their cheap laptop a makeover in order to target an older demographic. The original XO laptop, which was intended for primary school children, has been redesigned in order to make it more compatible with secondary school learning.
Some of the key changes made to the cheap laptop, now called the XO-HS are the addition of a much larger keyboard, better suited to older children. It will also be made available in a choice of colours and feature updated software. The organisation decided on Linux after having the choice between the open source operating system and Microsoft.
”We are expanding our range,” said OLPC Assosication member Kalil Nicolas of the decision to make the upgrade.“
”We still want to focus on 6-12 year olds – and motivate them – but they need a laptop to grow into.”
The cheap laptops are available for just $100 and will be delivered around September 2010.
