Apple iPad joins laptop range

The Apple laptops range has a new sister device after the US technology giant unveiled its latest creation, the Apple iPad, this week.

The Apple iPad bridges the gap between the iPhone and the company's iBook notebook range, allowing users surf the internet, view videos, play games and run applications through an intuitive touchscreen interface.

A major selling point of the Apple iPad will be its ability to display e-books from top publishers such as Harper Collins, meaning users will be able to download and view hundreds of books in a compact format.

Specifications-wise, the Apple iPad is available in 16GB, 32GB or 64GB capacity, with Wi-Fi connectivity as standard and built-in 3G access as an optional extra.

The Apple iPad is ultra compact, with an LED backlit display measuring just 9.7-inches and a body just 1.27-inches thick. Meanwhile, the unit weighs 680 grams and has an apparent battery life of 10 hours.
