Acer responds to Sony’s affordable Blu-ray laptops

Acer and Sony compete for cheap laptops crown

Sony recently announced the launch of its budget Blu-ray VAIO laptop, with an affordable price tag of just £540.

The revelation has shaken the cheap laptops market, since Sony has never been a brand to promote low price products. But, surprising us all, it has, and price-savvy Acer has come back with its own offering.

The new collection of Acer laptops, named the Aspire range, starts at a very reasonable £300. There are three models, and the Acer laptops have all been dubbed ‘mobile media powerhouses’.

Acer laptops are feature rich

The basic Acer laptops at the £300 starting price boast 16:9 aspect ratios for perfect viewing on the 15.6 inch LED backlit screens, as well as PowerSaver functions and multi-gesture touch pads.

The Acer laptops that are mid range in the Aspire series boast similar features, although they also have Intel processors, bigger hard drives and improved graphics cards.

In direct competition with Sony’s VAIO NWs, the Aspire AS5739G is the Acer laptop to look out for. A snip at around £450, the model boasts Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 processors, Nvidia GeForce graphics cards, bass boosters, 5.1 channel outputs for surround sound, Blu-ray capability and DVD drives.

High-spec Acer laptops at £450 with a Blu-ray drive can’t be a bad thing. Coupled with a minimalist, sleek design that Acer laptops are renowned for, and finished in a gemstone blue colour, it would be hard to imagine any other company biting back with such an attractive offer.
