Acer laptops made eco-friendly

The Acer laptops range is set to be given an eco-friendly overhaul with the addition of two new 'green' laptops.

The company recently unveiled two Timeline Acer laptops which it says feature absolutely no brominated flame retardants (BFRs) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in their production.

The move to banish these potentially harmful chemicals from the new Acer laptops models will be welcomed by those who see the laptop industry as one which has so far been reluctant to reduce its carbon footprint.

There are no exact specifications available for the new Acer laptops – christened the Aspire 3811TZ and 3811TZG – yet, although experts predict that the models will be not too dissimilar from other Acer laptops in the 3810 series, which feature up to 4GB RAM and 500GB hard drive space.

Some commenters have suggested that making eco-friendly adjustments to two machines is a token gesture from Acer laptops and that the company will have to make changes across its entire range to have a real impact.
